Marsala vineyard getaway

October is already peeping around the corner, and I am still thinking about our night we spent at a Marsala winery before going east into the wonderful island of Sicily. Waking up with the sound of ...nothing, crossing the patio to have breakfast, easy life. Holidays are always too much anticipated and too quickly gone again. Here's to exploring the world in all its glory, despite all the sad things we see on the news everyday.
Happy week to you all!

Too cool for school

Last week we went to the school we want to inscribe Petti to for a first introduction.
I must say, it is a bit confronting to think that your baby that was once 46cm and 2,4 kg has to be starting pre-school soon. Because school means another step in letting her go and preparing her for her own life. The school principal insisted on doing this tour during school hours, since he wanted to show a school in action and not a building. I thought that was a good starting point. So last week we visited all the kids from 2,5 years old to 12, so we could see the evolution and how their educational programmes work. I was positively surprised by the positive vibe as all kids seemed happy, they were dancing, drawing, listening to a story, learning with things adapted to our modern times. Petti was a little shy, holding her daddy close but she was interested in what the kids where doing. I am happy we made the decision when she was born to put her into daycare for 3 (half) days a week, so the shock will be less when she goes to school. She knows that mommy & daddy go away in the morning but she also knows that we come back and in the meantime she plays happily with other children and she learns with them and from them.
My baby is not gonna be a baby much longer.
Not easy for a moms heart. Enjoying every minute and every afternoon I have with her (although she can be a handful sometimes), and capturing these moments forever.
Damn.

In my shoes

They are really my shoes. My parents kept my first real shoes all this time, and now they are Olivia's.
I have compared them to shoes they sell now, and they are exactly the same and they are still in such a good state, that I wonder if I even walked with them :)
Anyway, now Olivia is walking with them.
And for some reason, it gives me a good feeling.

Festival Fever

In the little town where I grew up (and where we are living now) there was only one highlight every year: Suikerrock (Sugar Rock). The 3 most important days of the year! When I was young(er) (read teenager-early 20ies) it was so much fun, you could see all your friends, all the people you lost sight of, all the people who at one point had a crush on you or vice versa - so you had to look your coolest. It was fun, let me tell you. You didn't have to text or call people to see where they were, because you knew where they were: At Suikerrock! Lots of memorable nights and music and drinks and - how the *** did I get home- moments! I'm sure my friends will know this feeling.
Oh Nostalgia!
Certainly now, because O will also grow up here and I hope that when she is old enough- she will make her own memories here!
(But drink less- but seen her fascination with beer, I'm not sure)

Stars Hollow

Every year in the month of October, I feel like I need some extra cosiness and to create a little world around me that doesn't really exist. (Like foreplay on Christmas) This is also the time that I start watching my DVD’s of the Gilmore Girls again for the 24th time.(Yes, I am a girl and I watch these kind of series).
Just because the characters live in this fairy tale village, with lots of community spirit and pumpkin carving, Halloween dress up contests, lights in the trees everywhere, dance recitals on the gazebo and a diner where you are always welcome for a coffee and a donut. Some sort of magical, warm world. that doesn't exist. I long to live in a place like that, but instead I will keep dreaming in my bed, watching some late night DVD’s, and create a sort of fairy tale in my own world, with the people I love.
