Cooking at home with Foodbag.be

If you follow along on my facebookpage, you know that I try to diversify our food as much as I possibly can. I don't like to cook the same things twice, so every week I look for new recipes and products to try. Now, I have been doing this for some years now and sometimes the inspiration is just not there. The other thing that bothers me is that I often have to buy big amounts of things that I will probably never use again, like spices or jars of special ingredients. But it is not because I run out of inspiration, that I have to give up giving my family good food and it is not because I don't like to waste that I have to stop making out-of-the-ordinary dinners. So this is where Foodbag comes in!
This week I partnered up with Foodbag and received a refrigerated box at home with all fresh ingredients packaged in the right amount to make 4 balanced and delicious meals for my family.
The menu for this week was:
Homemade cod skewers with rice and peas
(the skewers with zucchini, bell pepper and red onion in combination with the fish tasted so fresh & healthy)
Green waterzooi (chicken casserole) with leek, celery and water cress
(great comfort food on a rainy day - the watercress and a good splash of lemon juice gave the whole dish a new meaning. The kid's favorite!)
Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce (the meatballs were packed with flavour and the potatoes were so creamy! My favorite!)
Bami Goreng with a soft boiled egg (Asian food at its best and so easy to make. My husband's favorite)

What I also love about them, is that they even have a playlist on Spotify to make cooking even more pleasant. Cooking made easy with the easy-to follow-steps on the back of the recipe card and under 40 minutes! Perfect, no?
I don't think it is more expensive than going to the supermarket and as a plus you don't waste anything and you eat healthy and fresh.
And you can order when you want, without a subscription. So when you have a busy week, or no inspiration, you can always order one and avoid greasy take-out nights.

This post is in partnership with foodbag.be, thank you for checking them out!

The dinner of the 3rd

Saturday evening we hosted a little dinner party for a family of 3 and our family of 3.
On the 3rd of October.
Everything is 3 in my world. Or maybe I create it. Whatever.
Sometimes dinner menus are just waiting to be created.
I think this one was one of them, because it contained everything I like, although food pairing professionals would probably not approve.
It doesn't matter.
Warm cheese - good bread - pimientos de padron - olives - duck - watercress - radicchio - nuts - apple - veal - dried ham - mozzarella - pesto - sundried tomatoes - pasta - cream - eggs - sugar - fresh vanilla from La Réunion.

Menu 03.10 (there is the 3 again)
Focaccia and warm camembert
Duck and a fall salad
Rolled veal & pasta al pomodoro
Crème brûlée

Asian Night Fever

Saturday evening we hosted a dinner party and I wanted to do it a little different because I know that my friend likes Vietnamese food and we felt inspired by all the flavours and colors of the east (and also by watching The Hairy Bikers' Asian Adventure, so funny). We decided on 3 little starter dishes. We made homemade fish cakes with beautiful salmon, pollack and oven baked potatoes, home made dim sums filled with pork mince, cilantro, chili, garlic and fish sauce & a sashimi of pollack with granny smith apple, green beans and a syrup of wasabi & lime.
For main we had pork belly with a herby glace and an aubergine mango soba noodles salad.
All this accompanied by a few Thai imported beers.
Dessert was very light, a pineapple carpaccio with mint & coconut blossom sugar.

When we were young Sven and I had lots of fun watching the Eurovision Song Contest together and this Saturday this also happened to be on television. So after dinner we jumped into the sofa and did some oldschool commenting on all the songs and outfits. We really had a good time on Saturday! He still cannot make a straight face for the photo! Some things never change! Luckily!

Food, fun & Friends

That's how you can describe our weekend. Saturday we decided to go have lunch at the Barrio Cantina food truck festival in Gent and stroll around a bit after lunch. Nothing exciting to be discovered but still, we love some good street food.
(If you are wondering what the black line is, across Olivia's eyebrows - it is her impression of Cara Delevingne, made with my mascara - don't ask)

Sunday we went for a swim in our local pool. It had been a while but Olivia still felt confident in the water. I can't wait for her to learn to swim.(These pictures were taken with the GoPro, so a bit blurry and they are stills from videos we made in the water)

After our swim, there was a litte fun park set up across the street, so Olivia went jumping for about 45 minutes, screaming 'encore, encore'!

My good friend CJ invited us for Sunday dinner, and of course we take every chance to see their little bumblebee and enjoy Boo's cooking.
